We're three months into our Brightening & Dark Spot Study, and the results so far have been incredibly encouraging. Participants with concerns in pigmentation have already begun seeing visible improvements – we’re excited to share an early look at their progress!

【Brightening & Dark Spot Study】

Product Tested: UNILIPO Whitening Spot-Fading Essence

Duration: 90 days

Directions: Apply once in the morning and once in the evening, using one pump each time. Focus on areas with dark spots and acne marks.

Meet @vividcolor:

Skin Concerns: Dark spots, uneven skin tone, sensitivity

"My skin isn't naturally dark, but I began noticing more dark spots in my 30s. My skin is sensitive and tends to become red and irritated when the weather changes or temperatures fluctuate. I've tried brightening serums and treatments, but fading them has been a challenge."

Results After 90 Days:

Both surface-level and deeper pigmentation appeared visibly reduced. The clusters of spots beneath the eyes looked lighter, and overall skin tone appeared brighter and more even.

Meet  @Zhang:

Skin Concerns: Sun-induced dark spots and uneven pigmentation

"I've had dark spots ever since experiencing significant sun exposure in high school military training. I've tried several brightening products over the years, but the spots remained stubborn and difficult to fade."

Results After 90 Days

This participant presented with deeper pigmentation, which can be more challenging to address than surface-level discoloration. After 90 days of use, imaging showed visible improvements in the appearance of dark spots and overall skin tone.

Skincare Tip

Sun exposure is one of the leading contributors to pigmentation concerns. Daily sunscreen use, even on cloudy days, can help prevent existing spots from becoming darker and reduce the formation of new pigmentation.

Skin Concerns: Early sun damage, dark spots, and post-acne marks

"In my early 20s, I wasn't very diligent about sun protection and started noticing dark spots, uneven skin tone, and lingering acne marks. I've tried many brightening products over the years, but the pigmentation remained stubborn."

Results After 90 Days

Because this participant began addressing pigmentation relatively early, many of the spots were still in their early stages of development. After 90 days of use, several spots appeared lighter, while overall skin tone looked more even. Imaging also suggested a reduction in the visibility of developing pigmentation.

Why Early Intervention Matters

Pigmentation can become more noticeable over time as melanin accumulates within the skin. Addressing discoloration early may help prevent spots from becoming darker and more difficult to manage.

Meet @Leng:

Skin Concerns: Dullness, post-acne marks, and dark spots

"My skin often looked dull and uneven, with lingering acne marks from past breakouts and some dark spots around my eyes. I rarely used brightening products."

Results After 90 Days

As someone new to brightening skincare, she noticed visible improvements in both overall skin tone and pigmentation. The dark spots around her eyes and cheekbones appeared lighter, while her complexion looked brighter and more even.

Meet @🦊🦊🦊🦊:

Skin Concerns: Sun-induced pigmentation and dark spots

"Last summer, I spent a lot of time outdoors and started noticing more dark spots and uneven pigmentation. I've had a picosecond laser treatment before, but I wasn't consistently using brightening products, so many of the spots remained visible."

Results After 90 Days

This participant has fair skin and is particularly prone to sun-induced pigmentation. Improvements became visible within the first two months of use, with overall pigmentation appearing lighter and more even across the treated areas.

Meet @Zoey :

Skin Concerns: Long-standing dark spots, freckles, and uneven pigmentation

"I started developing dark spots around the age of 20. I haven't had cosmetic procedures or used dedicated brightening products - just a basic skincare routine. Over time, the spots became darker, especially around my cheekbones and under my eyes."

Results After 90 Days

This participant presented with some of the most established pigmentation concerns in the study. Based on participant history and imaging analysis, the discoloration appeared consistent with a combination of freckles and melasma-like pigmentation.

She was surprised by the before-and-after comparison images. While the surface-level changes initially appeared subtle, imaging revealed more noticeable improvements beneath the skin's surface, particularly in areas of concentrated pigmentation.

While long-standing pigmentation typically takes time to improve, the progress observed over the study period was encouraging and suggests continued improvement with ongoing use.

Meet @NiuNiu:

Skin Concerns: Age-related dark spots and uneven pigmentation

"I started noticing dark spots in my 30s, and they seemed to become more noticeable each year. Although I'd tried a few photofacial treatments, I never really incorporated brightening products into my daily routine."

Results After Less than 80 Days

After less than 80 days of use, several of the spots appeared visibly lighter. The before-and-after images also showed a more even-looking complexion overall.

Meet  @Jessie :

Skin Concerns: Sensitive skin and long-standing dark spots

"I've had dark spots on the right side of my nose since middle school, and they've become more noticeable over the past few years. I've tried supplements like vitamin E and astaxanthin, but because my skin is so sensitive, I've always been hesitant to use brightening products directly on my face."

Results After 90 Days

As someone with sensitive skin, Jessie was particularly cautious about incorporating active brightening ingredients into her routine. After 90 days of use, the spots appeared lighter and blended more naturally with the surrounding skin tone.

The before-and-after images also showed a more even overall appearance in the treated areas.

Skincare Tips

Want to get ahead of the curve when it comes to brightening your skin and maximize your results? Here's what you should do:

1. Physical Sun Protection

Hats, sunglasses, and other sun-protective accessories are your best friends! The less UV exposure your skin receives, the easier it is to maintain a bright, even-looking complexion.

2. Sunscreen

365 days a year—you might not be excited about going to work, but you should never skip your sunscreen!

Rain or shine, daily sun protection is one of the most important steps in preventing dark spots from becoming darker and helping reduce the formation of new pigmentation.

3. Blue Light Protection

We're all glued to screens these days! If you're spending hours in front of a computer, consider adding products containing iron oxides—such as tinted sunscreen or foundation—to your routine for an extra layer of protection.

4. Enhance Absorption

Want to get the most out of your serum? Try applying it after toner or following up with a hydrating mask to help lock in moisture and support absorption.

5. Exfoliation

A little exfoliation can go a long way! Gentle acid-based products help remove dead skin cells, leaving skin looking smoother, brighter, and more receptive to your skincare routine.

6. Choose a comprehensive skin-brightening product

Six key brightening ingredients work together to tackle dark spots from every angle:

Think of it as a full-spectrum approach to brightening. Instead of targeting just one step in the pigmentation process, these ingredients work throughout multiple stages of melanin formation and accumulation.

They help reduce the signals that trigger excess melanin production, inhibit key enzymes involved in dark spot formation, and help limit the transfer of pigment to the skin's surface.

They also support the skin's natural ability to break down accumulated pigmentation, helping reveal a brighter, more even-looking complexion over time.

Research Objectives

Many mainstream brightening products rely on well-known ingredients such as 377 and its derivatives, niacinamide, and tranexamic acid. While these ingredients can be effective, they typically focus on only certain stages of the pigmentation process and may not always deliver satisfactory results for individuals with more established dark spots or uneven skin tone.

In recent years, siRNA technology has emerged as a new approach to pigmentation management. UNISOUL® RNAiW is designed to target MITF, a key regulator of melanin production within melanocytes. By acting at the source of pigmentation, RNAiW offers a more targeted approach to brightening. Clinical studies have shown that even at very low concentrations, UNISOUL® RNAiW demonstrated stronger melanin-inhibiting activity than kojic acid.

At the same time, UNISOUL® Reborn utilizes nano-encapsulated pterostilbene technology to help address existing pigmentation while supporting a brighter, more even-looking complexion. When combined with ingredients such as di-glucosyl gallic acid and tranexamic acid, the formula provides a multi-pathway approach to brightening that targets pigmentation from several angles.

Together, these technologies are designed to help reduce the appearance of existing dark spots, support a more even skin tone, and address multiple stages of the pigmentation process.

Based on this approach, UNILIPO conducted a real-world brightening and dark spot study to evaluate the effectiveness of these technologies across a variety of pigmentation concerns and to better understand their performance under everyday conditions.
