After speaking with many doctors, we've noticed a common pattern: during treatment for serious illnesses, or during postoperative and post-discharge recovery, it's hard to find a supplement that can support a healthy inflammatory response while also helping patients rebuild immune function.

Many doctors are open to recommending immune-supporting supplements; however, the real challenge is that many ingredients and formulations lack sufficient clinical evidence to back them up. Some products may have promising raw materials, but they often fall short in dosage, have a narrow scope of action, or are priced beyond what most families can afford.

UNILIPO Classic Glucan is designed for everyday immune support, allergy management, and seasonal wellness but some individuals may need more comprehensive nutritional support.

That's why we created this special dietary version of glucan – designed specifically for those who are more vulnerable and need stronger immune support. It is intended to complement a healthy lifestyle, not to replace any medical treatment.

6 Key Immune Ingredients & Their Benefits

Wellmune® Yeast Beta‑Glucan

■ Ingredient: Wellmune® Yeast Beta‑Glucan

■ Dose: 250 mg per daily serving

Yeast beta-glucan is one of the most extensively studied ingredients for immune support. From early research into its potential antitumor activity in the 1960s to its inclusion in clinical research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, yeast beta-glucan has been widely studied.

In our previous articles, we’ve covered numerous studies including immune support, allergies and respiratory health, gut microbiota regulation, and more.

One study found that yeast beta-glucan can promote “trained immunity.” By reprogramming a subset of neutrophils toward an antitumor phenotype, it increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and helped suppress tumor growth in experimental models. This study, published in Cell, made quite an impact.

Certain tumors, such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), are notoriously difficult to treat – T‑cell immunotherapy can face challenges because the tumor microenvironment lacks T‑cell infiltration, making it a “cold tumor.” However, a 2023 study in Science Immunology showed a different approach: beta-glucan, together with a CD40 agonist, promoted T-cell infiltration in PDAC tumors through Dectin-1 signaling.

Many people ask: can glucan provide immune support when you're immunocompromised? But what if you're already healthy? What benefit could it offer? That's where “immune training” comes in – and it might change how you think about glucan.

Think of our immune cells as soldiers. Without proper regulation, they may not respond to threats as effectively or they may overreact, contributing to excessive inflammation.  But with glucan acting like a skilled drill instructor, our immune cells receive consistent training helping them respond more effectively when new threats appear.

ElderCraft® Elderberry Extract

■ Ingredient: ElderCraft® Elderberry Fruit Concentrate Powder

■ Dose: 200 mg per day

Studies suggest that some elderberry compounds may interact with viral neuraminidase one of the same viral targets involved in the action of flu medications such as Tamiflu.

What sets this product apart from the classic version is the addition of ElderCraft® elderberry juice concentrate powder from IPRONA Group, made from Austrian Haschberg elderberries.

ElderCraft® is a concentrated elderberry extract standardized for polyphenols and anthocyanins. IPRONA's solvent-free filtration reduces sugars and mineral salts while concentrating beneficial compounds such as polyphenols and polysaccharides.

We've previously covered research into its potential effects against flu (including influenza A and B) and colds.

But this extract has also shown some interesting findings. In vitro studies found activity against SARS-CoV-2 including the original strain and variants with nearly 90% inhibition against major variants even at 100-fold dilution.

Another recent finding: consistent intake of elderberry extract was associated with increased Akkermansia muciniphila (Akk) abundance in the gut microbiota – with elevated levels persisting even after supplementation stopped.

Given the difficulty of supplementing live Akk directly, elderberry extract may offer an interesting alternative approach.

These findings add to growing research into elderberry's potential antiviral properties. Its effects on Akkermansia also highlight an interesting connection between elderberry and gut microbiota.

Sulforaphane + Myrosinase

■ Ingredients: TrueBroc® Broccoli Seed Aqueous Extract, Mustard Seed Powder

■ Dose: 120 mg per serving

Two of the most widely studied functions of sulforaphane are its role in cellular detoxification pathways and its potential anticancer activity.

The reason behind such broad effects – which we didn't fully cover in the previous two articles – is that sulforaphane regulates multiple key pathways, including the potent Nrf2 pathway, the NF‑κB pathway (closely linked to inflammation), the HSF1‑HSP pathway (associated with cancer targets), as well as various epigenetic modifications.

One of sulforaphane's advantages is its efficacy at relatively low doses. Sulforaphane activates pathways such as Nrf2, which can increase the body's production of glutathione and other antioxidant defenses.

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA)

■ Dose: 100 mg per day

Stress and anxiety can affect the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and cortisol production. GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, helps regulate neuronal activity and has been studied for its potential effects on stress and relaxation.

Numerous studies support GABA’s role in sleep. For instance, a recent controlled trial found that GABA supplementation increased total sleep time by 13% and improved Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores by nearly 60%.

Beyond its potential calming and sleep-supporting effects, GABA has also been studied for its roles in neuroprotection, inflammation, oxidative stress, and gut health.

Notably, preclinical studies suggest that GABA may help protect against toxin- and trauma-induced neuronal damage by activating signaling pathways such as Akt and ERK to inhibit harmful autophagy.

Sea Cucumber Peptides

■ Dose:  20 mg per daily dose

Sea cucumbers are a unique marine product with a distinctive protein composition and structure. Their collagen profile differs from that of other marine organisms – in addition to the common Type I collagen, they also contain Types IV, V, and XVIII.

While whole sea cucumbers are nutrient‑rich, their bioavailability is relatively low. Purified sea cucumber peptides may improve this issue, with reported bioavailability of over 95%.

Studies suggest that purified sea cucumber peptides may enhance macrophage phagocytic capacity and NK cell activity, supporting the body's innate immune defenses. Additionally, manufacturer research shows they increase the percentage of CD3⁺ cells and the CD4⁺/CD8⁺ ratio, supporting adaptive immunity as well.

Inulin

■ Dose: 100 mg per day

Inulin is one of the most widely studied prebiotics. It is a preferred food source for Bifidobacterium  – studies show that inulin can increase Bifidobacterium abundance and support a healthy gut microbiota.

Another lesser‑known benefit: inulin enhances the gut's absorption of other nutrients, such as vitamin D. One clinical study found a 42% increase in vitamin D absorption in children with deficiency.

Inulin has also been studied for its potential to improve iron absorption, including through effects on serum hepcidin levels.

By supporting gut health and nutrient absorption, inulin may be particularly useful for individuals with increased nutritional needs or poor absorption. While it may seem like just a prebiotic, its effects can extend beyond the gut – making it a foundational ingredient for overall wellness.

Summary

The ingredient profile above reflects the primary goal of this special dietary formula: comprehensive support for immune function and a healthy inflammatory response. Additional areas of support include antioxidant defense, recovery, gut health, stress management, and overall immune balance.

Beyond that, several ingredients have been studied for their potential effects on stress, sleep, and gut microbiota – supporting a broader approach to overall wellness.

In short, this is a formula that provides comprehensive immune support – exactly the kind of "all‑in‑one" product we set out to create.

Final Thoughts

The entire formulation is built around one core concept: immunity. It's about building a strong, balanced immune response.

Strong immunity doesn't mean simply cranking up immune activity. Both overactive and underactive immune responses can be problematic – think of it like a seesaw: the goal is to keep both sides in balance.

What we aim for is balance – keeping that seesaw as stable as possible. When the immune system faces a new challenge, the goal is an effective response without excessive inflammation. This balance becomes especially important as we age or face other health challenges.

By combining well-studied ingredients that support different aspects of immune function, the formula is designed to promote a more balanced and resilient immune response.
